So here we are in May and I haven't said anything about the Play since February.
Well, it was really terrific.
Beautiful performances from everyone, such a proud director. Lovely set and all the other things came together wonderfully, costumes, props, sound, lights... all great. Many people in the audience absolutely loved it and sent big compliments to the cast. One person even said he'd not seen anything better in The Abbey which is a very kind thing to say. So that is great, we delighted and moved people and what more could you ask?
Hopefully we have a few photographs of the show which I'll put up on the website soon.
And again we're searching for a play for the Autumn... it comes around so quickly. Any suggestions anyone?? I've been told we need something Funny. So, Funny, 12+ cast... answers on a postcard... or in the comments!

books down please...
Rehearsals are continuing to be fun, or even hilarious at times, and sad - with those few sad moments in the play. This play is all about the performance, it's clever and beautifully written but without a Performance it will fall flat. So far so good, we're having some really lovely moments from everyone, and I'm delighted to say that everyone is doing very well with the line learning. This Monday we'll have done the whole play off book which is terrific. Then we can start to polish and tweak which is my favourite bit.
Line learning is different for everyone but generally it's about repetition and training your memory to regurgitate the words as written rather than what you know you say at a certain point. Therein lies the path to misunderstanding and confusion, not only for oneself but also for the other actors who might have to change what they say to fit with what you said. Of course that will happen in performance at times, and generally it won't matter but sometimes just a phrase says so much about a persons character that to replace it with a different phrase could give an impression which is not as the playwright intended, changing the nature of the relationship of the characters in the play.
For now though we're mainly getting the gist of the play - the flow - and I'll get pedantic about the words later. Cast - You've been warned!
And we should have the poster soon and start to sell tickets in earnest. March 29th, 30th and 31st...

Rehearsals Rehearsals
So we're cast, and we've had 4 rehearsals so far. Quartermaine's Terms is Such a lovely play. So well written, so clever and funny and sad and poignant. Auditions were good, although next time I think I'll demand that only the Exact Number of Perfect People come along so that we don't have to turn anyone down, or rather not be able to offer them a part. Really everyone read so well it's hard to choose, but choose we had to and I'm really happy with the cast. We're so lucky in LPP to have a pool of talented folk who like to audition for our plays, as well as talented New Folk who want to come along and join us. Hopefully our rehearsals will be full of fun as well as getting the work done. At the moment we're just plotting out the play and getting a feel for the shape of it. Already there are some lovely things happening so I'm happy, very happy.
Charles is also planning a Valentine themed evening to raise funds for the continuing rebuilding of Haiti on February the 11th which is shaping up nicely. I'm sure he's still looking for people to help out so contact him if you're available. And if you have a Love themed piece (any aspect) then tell him about it and he might still be able to fit you in. And if you can't help out beforehand, and you don't want to be In it, then buy a ticket for only €7.50 and come along. For just that amount you get entertainment And delicious snacks in the interval And it will probably be finished around 10pm leaving plenty of time for you to Go Out (for the young people), Go Home and Get a Reasonably Early Night (for the slightly older people) or Go Home and Drop Into Bed Exhausted (for the folk with young children). Marvelous.
